“To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything He has given us - and He has given us everything. Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him.

Feeling especially grateful today for the big things, the small things, and all things in between.

Did you ever think that great painters have spent

Did you ever think that great painters have spent their lives trying to reproduce on canvas what we may see every day? Thousands of dollars are paid for their pictures which are not so beautiful as those nature gives us freely. The colors in the sky at sunset, the delicate tints of the early spring foliage, the brilliant autumn leaves, the softly colored grasses and lovely ﬂowers—what painter ever equalled their beauties with paint and brush? I have in my living room three large windows uncovered by curtains which I call my pictures. Everchanging with the seasons, with wild birds and gay squirrels passing on and off the scene, I never have seen a landscape painting to compare with them. As we go about our daily tasks the work will seem lighter if we enjoy these beautiful things that are just outside our doors and windows. It pays to go the top of the hill, now and then, to see the view and to stroll thru the wood lot or pasture forgetting that we are in a hurry or that there is such a thing as a clock in the world. DREAMING of this beautiful piece of property we visited in southern Missouri last week. It is loaded with walnut trees, an amazing hill just perfect for sledding, a fantastic view of the sunset, wild flowers, and plenty of space to roam. It has been so long since we’ve dreamed of anything new, or even thought of stepping outside our comfort zone, that it feels a bit unnatural. Whether this turns out to be the view out my living room windows some day or not, I’m so grateful for this beautiful picture and the hope it represents.

A simple way to make an ordinary day feel special: simmer something that smells inviting and delicious. 🍊🍊🍊

Here’s what you need:

•Peels from 1 large orange (or 3 small clementines)
•1 vanilla bean (or vanilla extract will work in a pinch)
•2 cinnamon sticks

How to Make Simmering Spices

STEP 1: Add 6 cups of water to a medium pot and bring to a boil.

STEP 2: Stir in all ingredients and let the mixture boil for 2 minutes.

STEP 3: Reduce the heat to a simmer and let simmer for as long as you’d like! I recommend adding ¼ cup of water for each hour you leave simmering to make sure the spices don’t burn.

“Faith is a willingness to sit in the tension of a place with no answers, while saying in our heart, “I will hold fast even when I don’t see or know or understand.”” - Sally Clarkson

If you find yourself sitting in a place of tension right now, I hope these verses encourage you as they have me. It is comforting to see the relationship between hope and waiting in the Bible. Even though our timeline doesn’t take into account the whole picture, our Omniscient Father’s does, and our hope is in Him.

•“And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you” (Ps. 39:7).

•“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him” (Ps. 62:5).

•“For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience” (Rom. 8:24–25).

•“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:11–13).

•“For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness” (Gal. 5:5).

In The Hiding Place Corrie ten Boom shared about a

In The Hiding Place Corrie ten Boom shared about a time when she was in solitary confinement and an ant became her only form of companionship. The ant made her feel that she was no longer alone, and she saw this little creature as a gift from God. Reflecting back on the day she was released from solitary confinement she says this,
“More time passed. I kept my eyes on the ant hole, hoping for a last visit from my small friends, but they did not appear. Probably I had frightened them by my early dashing about. I reached into the pillowcase, took one of the crackers, and crumbled it about the little crack. No ants. They were staying safely hidden. And suddenly I realized that this too was a message, a last wordless communication among neighbors. For I, too, had a hiding place when things were bad. Jesus was this place, the Rock cleft for me. I pressed a finger to the tiny crevice.”

Hebrews 10:23-25 encourages us to “hold resolutely to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds. Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have made a habit, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the day approaching.”

Never has my desire to help you turn your eyes to Jesus been greater. He is here in our midst, our ever present help in trouble. He placed us here, as mother’s of growing and learning children, in 2021, for such a time as this. Puddles of his love are everywhere, if we simply have eyes to see them. My desire is that these bundles help point you to them.

“We should be astonished at the goodness of God,

“We should be astonished at the goodness of God, stunned that He should bother to call us by name, our mouths wide open at His love, bewildered that at this very moment we are standing on holy ground.”

Here are a few pictures that made it to my phone this week. All of these are little reminders of the goodness of God in my life. Wouldn’t it be natural for Him to show you little glimpses of His love in ways that he knows would be meaningful to you? Your little reminders may look different than mine, but I promise you they are still there!

🌿Chickweed: a new favorite for its delicate flowers and new-to-me benefits.
🌿Mason Jar Butter I shook up in a pinch the other day. Literally only took about 5 minutes and was delicious. 🧈
🌿A sweet summer day spent with family and friends….and horses (lately, there always seems to be horses).
🌿Dream house inspiration that made it from my Pinterest board to my photos.
🌿Watermelon. Because it’s summer.
🌿A picture of our kitchen cabinet that I’m using for a new project I’m working on for the blog. Super excited for this and can’t wait to share!
🌿A picture my sister took of me last year while we were on vacation. This one means so much because I was really sick the day she took it. Yet, even in my pain, she was able to capture this beautiful moment that mostly serves as a reminder that God sees me, knows me, and loves me.
