Description
CHANGES – Last month, on Instagram, I posted a few questions for morning time users. I was looking for ideas and suggestions for making the morning time bundles more user friendly and hopefully able to meet more of your needs. You all were very gracious to me in your responses and offered some wonderful suggestions. What I found is that many of you would like to see the bundles on a full size sheet. Many wanted to see a larger piece of art, other wanted the ability to use your bundle in a menu protector, or some simply wanted to be able to see the content better. Other than that, overall most were very happy the morning time bundles.
Aside from adding new sections, the morning time format has not changed since their inception two years ago. For some time, I have felt the need to switch things up a bit, but just didn’t have the vision for something new. Your feedback sparked a flame and enabled me to see the morning time bundles in a fresh, new way. I’m grateful for your suggestions and even more grateful that God made us in His image with the ability to think, reason, and create. I hope that the combination of those gifts has given you a product that is educational, user friendly, timeless, and beautiful. I also hope that it is a tool that brings you closer to each other and closer to the one who has given these gifts for us to enjoy.

As you read the blog post you will find that most of the educational links that you normally find on the blog post are missing. Those links and resources are now included in your download. You will find them in the weekly schedules as well as the additional resources page.
Another BIG change is that you are now able to purchase a physical copy of the bundle. I will print, bundle and mail them to you! This means that the bundles will be released mid-month instead of closer to the beginning of the month you will be using them. Getting the bundle to you sooner allows time for you to prepare (a feature requested by many) and guarantees a pleasing printed product, as pretty as a picture.
MUSIC
We are studying Danny Boy this month. This song is a ballad set to the traditional Irish melody of “Londonberry Air.” You may be familiar with this tune as it is often played at funerals. Though the words of this song are somber I believe it is a tune that is worth appreciating beyond its common arena. This song beautifully expresses a visual of the changing season. Its words tell of the ending summer and the coming winter, resting some place in between. I hope you enjoy it as a choice for autumn music study.
Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer’s gone, and all the roses falling,
It’s you, It’s you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer’s in the meadow,
Or when the valley’s hushed and white with snow,
It’s I’ll be here in sunshine or in shadow,—
Oh, Danny boy, O Danny boy, I love you so!
POETRY
One of my favorite whimsical autumn poems is the one we will be learning this month. We have been saturating ourselves in the current season this year and truly have enjoyed watching the leaves as they steal the show. Our poem does such a great job of personifying the autumnal elements we enjoy each year.
“Come, little leaves,” said the wind one day,
“Come o’er the meadows with me and play;
Put on your dresses of red and gold,
For summer is gone and the days grow cold.”
This will be a fun poem to memorize. I am really looking forward to working on it with my own children. I hope you do, too.
ART
The art selection this month is a folk piece by Edward Hicks titled Residence of Thomas Hilborn.
Mr. Hilborn has a very distinct look to his art as seen in this Colonial Williamsburg exhibit. Many of his works depict Quaker themes of peace and brotherly love. His paintings from the 1840s, the last decade of Hicks’ life, are considered his best.
BIBLE STUDY
The spiritual focus of our morning time this month is that of being rooted and established. Scripture often uses the tree as an example of our faith when we are rooted and grounded in God’s love and God’s word. Ephesians 4 shares that the result of our maturing Christian faith is that we will no longer be carried about with every wind of doctrine, fluttering around like falling leaves.
This month we are memorizing Colossians 2:6-7.
As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
This scripture reveals that as we walk with Christ we will be rooted, built up, established, and abounding with thanksgiving. November is a great time to focus our attention on Him, to remind ourselves that close companionship with him makes us strong and loyal, just as the oak tree we are studying.
SCIENCE
The oak, as Mrs. Comstock refers to it is a “symbol of strength and loyalty”. What characteristics does it have that distinguishes it as such? As you study the Oak tree this month, keep this question in mind. How can our lives echo these qualities?
As usual, we will use The Handbook of Nature Study to help direct our learning. The nature study sheet will guide you through this study as well as a study of the acorn.
CRAFT
We are tying this months craft into our nature study with the felting of wool acorns. Your instructions include a mix of needle felting as well as wet felting. The mix of these two methods results in a smooth round ball to attach to your acorn cap. You can use your finished product at place settings, on gift packages, or even as ornaments.
Materials needed for this months craft are listed on the craft sheet included in your download.
CHARACTER STUDY
James Buchanan, our countries 15th president is the focus of this month’s character study. James Buchanan had become president during a very tumultuous time in the history of our country. Two days after his inauguration, the Supreme Court ruled in the Dred Scott Case that African Americans could never be U.S. Citizens and that the federal government could not prohibit the practice of slavery. Buchanan, did very little to bring the country together and at the conclusion of his term, the country was on the brink of Civil War.
Suggested links to the study of James Buchanan are listed in the download.
RECIPE
Pumpkin, spices, and cream cheese join together to create a delicious bread for your family to enjoy this month.
When we made this recipe our entire house was filled with an incredible aroma of spices that my husband was sure the flavor couldn’t match. When we sat down to enjoy our snack he was incredibly surprised. This bread is delicious.
We will be making a second batch to share with friends and family over the Thanksgiving holiday.
SCHEDULE
I re-designed the format of the schedule that is included with your morning time bundle. Your bundle contains 4 weeks of suggested learning for each day of the week. The suggested links are included in the download rather than being on the blog post. I hope that this makes them more accessible for you and easier for you to implement in your study.
Before I end this months bundle I wanted to let you all know about some great resources that I believe have a lot to offer in terms of your growing morning times together. I have composed a selection of Usborne books that I believe would all be a wonderful addition to any homeschool library. Some of these are great resources for nature study, artist study, and history. All of them would be wonderful gifts for the budding learners in your family. You can find the list here.
Thank you so much for your continued support of my small business. Your support gives me the opportunity to share my passions with others, encourage families to grow together both spiritually and educationally, and allows me the continued blessing of homeschool my own children. I am so grateful for you!
