A thrill of hope
the weary world rejoices

This months morning time selections, specifically the music and poetry, remind us of the hope of Christmas: that God did not abandon or leave us to ourselves. He loved us enough to make a way to restore what was broken and to bring us back to Himself. We rejoice because in Him we have been saved and have been given a glimpse of a new day a glorious morn. Hope has come.

My favorite little corner all dressed up for Christmas. 🎄🎄

This spot will go away with the remodel we hope to do next year, so I’m making sure to enjoy it to its fullest this year. It seems that once we decided to stay here and remodel, rather than move somewhere else that I have a renewed sense of love for this place that has been our home since 2003. This house has welcomed both of our babies, one 16 years ago today, and has served us so well. We look forward to breathing new life into it as we continue building our home and family here.

This little Christmas setup in my kitchen this mor

This little Christmas setup in my kitchen this morning is reminding me of the best Christmas confection I can prepare and set before my family: God’s word.

Psalms describes it this way in Psalm 119:103 - “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey in my mouth.”

C.H. Spurgeon once taught a sermon on this passage and labeled it “The Best Christmas Fare”. Here’s a little excerpt: “I like this way of describing the reception of God's Word as a matter of eating, for a man cannot eat God's Word without living. This idea of tasting God's Word contains the thought of receptiveness. A man may hear a thing and, as we say, it goes in at one ear and out at the other; but that which a man gets into his mouth till he tastes it, and it is sweet to his palate, well, he has received that.”

I’m so grateful for the time that the four of us spent together today bringing Christmas cheer to this sweet little house we call home. It was the first time in a long time that every member of our house participated in decking the halls, and we had so much fun. Tomorrow we’re off to do some shopping. 🎄 🎄 🎄

Today I am thankful for my mom and sister. I wonder if there is anything sweeter than for a girl to grow up knowing that her biggest support group will be the one she’s had from the very beginning. I certainly don’t think so.

I have a drawer in my craft cabinet full of trinkets we’ve made in our morning times. To be honest, some of them I have crafted alone, some of them the whole family has participated in creating, and others my daughter has done.

On their own, their just things. Collectively they tell a story that represents so much more: moments that have slowly built the culture of our home.
