LOVE- Could you imagine what a different world we would be living in if we all lived in the shadow of God’s love? I have been thinking about this a lot lately in light of our current social climate. Wouldn’t the need to promote ourselves or our agenda fade away if we truly saw the ugliness of our own hearts and were disgusted by our own sin? Wouldn’t the Light of the World shine brighter if we would step out of the way? What would life look like if we humbled ourselves before Christ who so lovingly died, not to pay the penalty for His own sin, but to pay the penalty for ours.
We cannot make much of ourselves and much of the Lord Jesus Christ simultaneously.

This month we will be making much of Jesus. I hope that as we do, you are blown away by His love for you.
And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2: 1-10
The music we will be focusing on this month is The Love of God by Frederick Lehman. I particularly love this version by Mercy Me, and also enjoy this resource for learning more about the writing of the hymn from Happy Hymnody.
The stanza of this hymn that I particularly love is this:
“Could we with ink the ocean fill, and were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above, would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole, though stretched from sky to sky.”
Often, in February, roses and carnations tend to dominate the scene, but it is the violet that is the official birth flower for those who celebrate their birthdays in the month of February. The flower is said to symbolize truth and loyalty, while also embodying a sense of modesty, spiritual wisdom, and humility.
Our poem this month hints to its humility while also describing gracefully the color, scent, and shape of the flower. This is a perfect addition to our nature study this month which is also the violet.
Be sure to follow the links included in the morning time bundle to see which famous poem was also written by this months poet. I feel very certain that it is one you will be very familiar with.
I believe that the art piece this month is the very first portrait to be included in a morning time bundle. The artist, Jacob Eichholtz was an early American painter who was known primarily for his portraits during the Romantic Victorian period. This portrait of two sisters felt like it captured all of those things so well and felt like a perfect addition to a February morning time bundle.
I really enjoy including “lesser known” artists in the bundles. Though I often find that those that are “lesser known” to me were truly some of the best of their time. Jacob Eichholtz has hundreds of his works housed in art museums, historical societies, and private collections throughout the United States. This month’s piece is include in a 12 piece collection that is stored at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.
The scripture we will be memorizing this month is I JOHN 4:9-10
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
The Morning Time bundle includes linked weekly devotionals by my sister, Amy Keck. These will add so much depth to your study, I truly hope you utilize this resource.
As mentioned previously, we will be studying the Violet this month. I was able to purchase two violet plants at Walmart for around $3 each to help guide our study. We will likely see the wild violets in our yard bloom later this month, but until then these are a good, cheap alternative until then.
We will use The Handbook of Nature Study to help direct our learning. The nature study sheet will guide you through this.
What a sweet surprise the simplicity and beauty of this months craft brought. Sometimes less really is more, and I believe that the embroidery hoop sun catchers you will be crafting this month is a perfect example of that. Though it does take a little bit of planning (you will need to press and dry your flowers for about two weeks prior to using them) I do hope that you give this easy craft a try.
Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President of the United States, is the focus of the February morning time bundle. Grant is probably best known as a hero in the U.S. Civil War. He served as head of the Army of Tennessee and won victories at Shiloh, Vicksburg, and Chattanooga. Though popular as a war hero, his presidency is often criticized.
In contrast to how easily the craft pulled together this month, the recipe did not come together as well. In fact, I tried 3 different recipes this month before finally deciding on this one. I felt a bit like Goldilocks searching for the perfect dessert before finally finding that the 3rd one was “just right”. The winning recipe isa very simple icebox cake. It takes only a few ingredients, requires no baking or cooking on the stove, and is very easy to pull together. I hope it is one you and your family enjoys.
