May 2022 Morning Time Bundle: Music, Poetry, Nature Study, Art, and Homeschool Inspiration
A Note From Fresh Wanderings
These Morning Time resources have been a meaningful part of Fresh Wanderings for many years. While this particular resource is no longer available, I’m grateful that these posts continue to find their way into the hands of readers who value music, art, poetry, and Scripture.
If those are the very things that brought you here, I’d love to invite you to explore The Attentive Life.
Created in the same spirit of wonder and attentiveness that shaped these earlier resources, The Attentive Life extends an invitation to slow down and pay closer attention. Through music, art, poetry, photography, literature, and reflection, it gently explores the beauty, goodness, and meaning woven throughout ordinary life.
Thank you for spending time here. If The Attentive Life resonates with you, I’d be delighted to welcome you there as well.
A Simple Guide to Morning Time | May 2022
Morning Time has always been one of my favorite ways to bring beauty, learning, and meaningful conversation into our days. Rather than rushing from subject to subject, it creates space to gather together, enjoy something lovely, and build a shared family culture one small step at a time.
This May Morning Time Bundle is filled with many of the things that make spring feel especially delightful. You’ll spend time listening to big band music, studying a charming spring poem, exploring a beautiful seasonal painting, observing garden snails, and reflecting on the eternal nature of God through Scripture.
One of the things I appreciate most about Morning Time is how naturally different subjects connect with one another. Music, art, nature study, history, handcrafts, and Bible study all work together to create a rich learning atmosphere without requiring elaborate preparation.
If you’re building your own Morning Time practice, you may also enjoy exploring the Morning Time Library for additional seasonal studies and ideas. Families who appreciate simple rhythms may find the Gentle Weekly Rhythm Planner helpful as they create flexible routines that support both home, work, and learning.
Whether you use every part of this bundle or simply borrow a few ideas, I hope these resources encourage meaningful conversations, quiet wonder, and joyful learning in your home throughout the spring season.
Music Study: Glenn Miller and the Swing Era
The May musical selection is titled In the Mood by Glenn Miller. Glenn Miller was a talented composer, bandleader, and arranger in the Swing Era. He also made a significant contribution to the morale of Army and Air Force personnel during World War II. In the Mood is a fun song to introduce in the springtime.
The featured poem in this bundle takes the structures of a house and compares them with the seasonal changes that appear in May. As you read, make the poetry fun by spending some time crafting a popsicle stick or wooden house of your own. Think through the walls, floors, windows, etc. How will you construct them?
There was very little to be found online about this months poet, but I was able to find a collection of some of his poems. There is still so much to enjoy!
Sometimes, while searching for an art piece to highlight in the morning time bundles, I find a diamond-in-the-rough. This piece is one of those. It is a picture of spring and is one part of a seasonal collection this artist completed. All of the art pieces to that collection are beautiful and will be viewed during your morning times this month.
You can learn more about the artist Joseph Rubens Powell and view some of his other pieces of art at the links listed here:

I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
This Scripture passage provides a wonderful opportunity to discuss God’s eternality and His existence outside of time. The key concept you will discuss is that God exists outside of time and is not limited by time like we are.
To compliment your scripture memory, you can also study these passages: Habakkuk 1:12, Psalm 90:2, Isaiah 41:4, and John 3:15

Nature Study: Observing Garden Snails
Garden snails are the featured nature study in this bundle. The morning time bundle will walk you through the study, and help you gather everything you need to prepare a small habitat for your snail.
I am excited about this study, even though my children are older. Every evening in the summer, we have a handful of snails and slugs that slide along our back porch. My daughter will enjoy creating a small habitat for a few of them. You should have fun with it, as well.
These simple little bird feeders are the craft for May. This craft is inexpensive and easy. Other than drying time, you should finish it reasonably quickly. Our feathered friends enjoyed this addition to the backyard. Yours probably will too.
Character Study: Dwight D. Eisenhower
This bundle’s character study explores the life and presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower. The following links are listed in the bundle and will help guide your learning of this President:
For the first time in a very long time, The featured recipe included in this bundle is savory instead of sweet. It is a fantastic combination of fresh herbs, cheeses, and textures. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
